Junkers

Junkers logo

Junkers is the workhorse gas water heater of the Spanish market and probably the brand we fit most often. The continuous flow units handle a shower and a kitchen tap running together without dropping temperature, and the build is engineered for the kind of heavy use a family villa puts on a hot water system. EnviroCare has installed Junkers since the company was set up in 1996, both on butane bottle setups in older properties and on piped natural gas in the newer urbanisations between Marbella and Estepona.

About the brand

Junkers was founded in Germany in 1895 and has built gas appliances ever since. The brand became part of Bosch in 2008 and now trades commercially in Spain as Junkers Bosch. The Spanish operation runs out of Madrid with regional spares stocked in Malaga, which means a two-day delivery to the coast on parts that are not already on the engineer's van. The range covers continuous flow units (calentadores) from 11 to 18 litres per minute, gas-fired storage cylinders for higher demand, and a small line of hybrid heat-pump units. The brand is recognised across the Spanish trade and a Junkers fitted by EnviroCare can be serviced by any registered gas installer in the country.

The range we fit

The HydroNext and Hydrocompact ranges cover the bulk of residential installs. The 11 litre per minute units suit a one-bathroom apartment with a single shower and a kitchen tap. The 14 litre per minute sits in the middle of the range and handles a typical two-bath townhouse where two showers occasionally overlap. The 18 litre per minute is the villa default, sized for three bathrooms and a kitchen running together. Both butane and piped natural gas variants are available across the range, with electronic ignition and modulating burners standard on the modern units.

Where Junkers fits and where it does not

Junkers is the default fit for any property with a gas connection and more than one bathroom. Continuous flow means no waiting for a tank to reheat, which matters when a family of four wants to shower in sequence before breakfast. Junkers is cheaper to buy than Vaillant and easier to source parts for than Saunier Duval. It is the wrong call for an electric-only flat with no flue route, where an electric storage boiler or heat-pump tank is the only option. It is also overkill for a single-occupancy studio in Mijas Costa where a 50 litre electric Equation will do the job for a third of the price.

What the install includes

A standard Junkers install covers removal of the old unit, supply and fit of the new heater, gas connection and pressure test, water connections with isolation valves, flue work to current RITE rules, electrical supply for the ignition and a full combustion test on commissioning. The work is signed off by a registered gas installer and the boletin filed for the property records. EnviroCare hold the most-fitted sizes in stock for next-day install. Owners get the gas certificate, manufacturer warranty registration and the EnviroCare three-year parts and labour warranty on top of the Junkers cover, which runs at two years standard.
