Air conditioning on the Costa del Sol is not just about buying a unit. It is about specification, installation route, refrigerant pipework, electrical capacity and ongoing service. A unit sized for the wrong room runs all day and never reaches set point. A pipe run cut too short leaks refrigerant within a season. EnviroCare has been working out of Mijas since 1996, fitting and servicing air conditioning for homeowners across the coast. If you already know which town you are in, jump to your area page below. For the running-cost numbers first, the cost guide covers it in detail.
What we install and when each fits
Four install types cover almost every home and small business on the coast. The right one depends on the property layout, how many rooms need cooling at once and how much disruption the install can take.
Wall split: one indoor unit, one outdoor, single room. Default for bedrooms, lounges and apartments
Multi-split: one outdoor unit feeding two to five indoor heads. Best when balcony space is tight
Ducted: indoor unit hidden in the ceiling void, vents in each room. Cleanest look for villas with a false ceiling
Cassette ceiling: square indoor unit recessed in the ceiling, four-way airflow. Common in shops, offices and open-plan villas
The four variables that decide how well an AC install runs
Most AC failures we are called out to fix come back to one of four things being wrong from day one. Get these right and the unit will run for fifteen years.
Sizing: kilowatts of cooling matched to room volume, glazing and orientation. Oversized units cycle on and off, undersized ones never reach set point
Brand: not all units handle Costa del Sol summer temperatures the same way. The cheapest unit is rarely the cheapest over a decade
Refrigerant: R32 is the current standard, with lower global-warming impact and higher efficiency. New installs should be R32
Installation quality: vacuum the pipework, pressure-test for leaks, set the right charge, register the F-Gas paperwork

How the work runs
From first call to commissioned system
Step 1
Free site survey
An engineer measures rooms, checks glazing and orientation, walks the pipe and cable routes and confirms the consumer unit has enough capacity. Survey appointments are free.
Step 2
Written and itemised quote
Quote covers units with cooling kilowatt rating, pipe and cable lengths, brackets, condensate drains, electrical work, F-Gas paperwork and labour. No deposit until you accept it.
Step 3
F-Gas registered installation
Pipework is brazed, vacuumed and pressure-tested before charging. Indoor units levelled, condensate drains run with the right fall, outdoor unit on anti-vibration mounts.
Step 4
Commissioning and handover
We run the system in cooling and heating, check temperatures at every vent, verify refrigerant pressures and walk you through the controls, remote and filter-clean routine.
Step 5
Three-year parts and labour warranty
Every new install carries a three-year EnviroCare warranty on parts and labour, on top of the manufacturer warranty. Maintenance contract holders get an annual service and priority callout.

Brands we install
Brands matched to the job
Toshiba
Japanese-built, strong reputation for quiet running and long service life. Seiya is a sensible mid-market pick, Daisekai sits at the top end.
Fujitsu
Fujitsu General units handle Costa del Sol summers well. Multi-split outdoor units are reliable workhorses for villas with several rooms to cool.
Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi Electric ducted MGPEZ R32 systems are the discreet whole-house option when a false ceiling is available. Wall splits sit at the top end.
Panasonic
Reliable Japanese engineering across entry-level wall splits up to inverter multi-splits. Spare parts easy to source.
Frimec
Spanish brand with strong wall split, ducted and cassette ranges in R32. Sensible price point against the Japanese options.
Depends on budget and how hard the unit will run. For the quietest operation and longest service life, Mitsubishi Electric or Toshiba Daisekai. For a strong mid-market unit that handles Costa del Sol summers, Fujitsu General or Toshiba Seiya. For value without giving up reliability, Frimec in R32. We recommend the model on the survey.
Do I need a ducted system or wall splits?
Ducted is cleaner visually because the indoor unit sits hidden in the ceiling void. It needs a false ceiling or roof space. Wall splits are quicker and cheaper to install, easier to service, and you can fit one room at a time. For a villa with three or more rooms and a false ceiling, ducted usually wins. For apartments and townhouses without ceiling space, wall splits or a multi-split.
Can a heat-pump air conditioner heat the property in winter?
Yes. Modern inverter splits run in heating mode down to roughly minus 7 to minus 10 degrees outside, which the Costa del Sol almost never sees. Below 7 degrees outside they become slightly less efficient because frost forms on the outdoor coil. For a coastal home in January and February, a heat-pump split is a practical heating option.
How often should air conditioning be serviced?
Once a year is the minimum for a domestic unit, ideally before summer. Filters need cleaning every two to three months in heavy use. Ducted systems need a deeper vent and coil clean every two to three years on top of the annual service.
How much does air conditioning cost to run in Spain?
A single split unit cooling one room costs around 5 to 30 euro per month over the summer. A whole-villa ducted system pushed all day in July and August costs 80 to 120 euro per month. The running-cost guide breaks the numbers down by unit size, hours of use and tariff.
