Local experience

Since 1996

A pool cover is the highest-return upgrade most coastal pool owners can make. The right cover cuts water evaporation by up to 80 percent through the summer, holds eight to twelve degrees of heat overnight so the pool is swimmable a fortnight earlier in May and a fortnight later in October, and keeps leaves, pine needles and dust off the surface between uses. We supply and fit pool covers cut to the exact size of the pool, with a telescopic roller for daily handling, across the Costa del Sol from Nerja to Gibraltar. EnviroCare has been working on coastal swimming pools out of Mijas since 1996.

Three cover types for three different jobs

Pool covers fall into three categories, each doing a different job. Owners often need two of the three for a pool that gets year-round use. We supply and fit all three.

  • Solar bubble: lightweight summer cover that gains heat from sunlight and cuts evaporation
  • Thermal foam: insulated cover that holds heat overnight and extends the swimming season
  • Safety cover: rigid or mesh deck-mounted cover designed to support a child or pet weight
  • Winter debris cover: heavy mesh tarp for the months the pool is closed

Why pool covers earn their cost on the Costa del Sol

A 50 square metre pool on the coast loses around 5 to 10 mm of water per day to evaporation through July and August. Over a four-month summer that is six to twelve cubic metres of mains water that has to be topped up, plus the chlorine, salt and pH chemistry that scales with refill volume. A solar bubble cover sat on the pool overnight and through the middle of the day when nobody is swimming cuts that loss by roughly 80 percent. The cover also gains around two to four degrees of water temperature on a sunny day, which extends the swimmable season by three to four weeks at each end. Where the pool already runs a heat pump or solar thermal, the cover roughly halves the running cost by stopping the overnight heat loss.

Cut and fitted to your pool

Every cover we supply is cut to the exact shape of the pool, including the step bay, the corner radii and any feature inlay. Standard rectangular and kidney-shaped pools template directly from the dimensions. Irregular or freeform pools are templated on site with a paper or laser template that captures every curve. The cover ships with reinforced edges for handling, grommets along one edge for the roller fixings and a one to two year UV-resistance rating depending on grade.

The telescopic roller question

A pool cover without a roller is a cover that ends up unused after the first weekend. Manually folding a 50 square metre bubble cover and dragging it off the deck takes two adults and most of fifteen minutes, which nobody does on the way out the door to the beach. A telescopic roller with two end-stand wheels takes one adult about forty seconds to roll the cover off and back on, which is what makes the cover a daily habit rather than a kit that sits in the shed. We supply the EnviroCare telescopic roller as standard with every new cover.

How the work runs

From first call to commissioned system

  1. Step 1

    Pool measure

Send dimensions and a photo of the pool, or book a free site visit. Irregular or freeform pools template on site. Survey appointments are free across the Costa del Sol.

  2. Step 2

    Cover specification and quote

We send a written quote covering the cover grade (solar bubble, thermal foam or safety), the roller, the template fee where applicable and the labour figure. No deposit until you accept it.

  3. Step 3

    Cover supply

Standard sizes ship within one to two weeks. Bespoke template covers run three to four weeks from order to delivery, depending on the manufacturer.

  4. Step 4

    Fit and handover

We fit the roller, trim the cover edge if needed, attach the grommet line to the roller and walk through the daily roll-on, roll-off routine. Total fit time on a standard rectangular pool is around an hour.

Why EnviroCare

Local experience that matters on the job

Trading since 1996

Close to thirty years on the Costa del Sol working on coastal pools, including pools we built ourselves in the late 1990s that still run on EnviroCare equipment today.

Cut to the exact pool

Every cover is templated to the pool shape, including step bays, corner radii and any feature inlay. Off-the-roll rectangles do not stop evaporation at the corners.

Telescopic roller as standard

A telescopic roller turns the cover into a forty-second daily habit. Without one, most covers end up unused after the first weekend.

Pool plant compatibility

We size and specify the cover alongside the pool heater, the pump and the filter so the cover works with the wider plant. Cover, roller and pool plant come from the same supplier where it makes sense.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How much water does a pool cover save?

Around 80 percent of summer evaporation on a typical Costa del Sol pool. On a 50 square metre pool that is roughly six to twelve cubic metres of mains water per summer, plus the chemistry that scales with refill volume. The water saving alone pays for the cover within two to three seasons.

Does a pool cover heat the water?

A solar bubble cover gains two to four degrees of water temperature on a sunny Costa del Sol day, and holds heat overnight to roughly half the daily loss. Paired with a pool heat pump, the cover roughly halves the running cost of the heater. Thermal foam covers hold more heat overnight than bubble covers but gain less during the day.

What about safety covers for children and pets?

Safety covers are deck-mounted, weight-rated and sit taut across the pool. They are designed to support a child or pet weight without the cover sinking into the water. They cost more than a bubble or foam cover but are the right answer for households with young children, dogs or community-of-owners pool fencing rules.

Will the cover fit a freeform pool?

Yes. Irregular or freeform pools are templated on site with a paper or laser template that captures every curve. The cover is then cut to the template and shipped to fit. Template covers take three to four weeks from order to delivery.

Do I need a roller?

Yes for any cover larger than a small plunge pool. A manually folded 50 square metre cover takes two adults and fifteen minutes to remove, which is too much friction for daily use. A telescopic roller takes one adult forty seconds. The cover only earns its cost when it gets used every day.

How long does a pool cover last?

A solar bubble cover lasts three to five years on the Costa del Sol before UV exposure starts to weaken the bubbles. Thermal foam covers last five to seven years. Safety covers last eight to twelve years. Storing the cover under a roller cover when not in use extends the life of all three.
