Local experience

Since 1996

EnviroCare is a family-run company based in Mijas, on the Costa del Sol. Helen Johnson and Phil Barr started the business in 1996, fitting air conditioning into the new villas and apartments going up along the coast. Three decades on, the same family still runs the company, and most of our work comes through word of mouth. Our customers are British and other European homeowners who keep a property here. Some live in Spain year round. Some let their place to holiday guests and need a system that runs without supervision. Some are renovating an older villa. The thread is the same: they want to be told the truth about what the job needs, what it costs, and how long it will last.

Who started EnviroCare and why

In 1996, Helen and Phil were a young couple settling in southern Spain. The coast was busy with new builds and renovations, and almost nobody was specialising in proper air conditioning installation for foreign-owned homes. Helen and Phil saw the gap and started fitting and servicing systems for villas and apartments around Mijas, Marbella and Calahonda.

The first article ever written about the business appeared in The Club Naranja, a community magazine in Calahonda. It captured the early years: every job done by hand, every customer call answered in person, every system signed off before the team left site.

The work has not changed in shape. It has only changed in scale. The same family still owns the company. Our children grew up here in Spain. The customer relationships built in the 1990s are still on the books today.

Who you actually deal with

Helen runs the office and handles bookings, quotations and aftercare. Phil leads the technical side and has trained every engineer who has worked at EnviroCare over the past three decades. Nico is one of our senior engineers and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, which matters when a system has been documented in Spanish but you need the explanation in English.

We are a small team on purpose. The person who quotes your job is the same person who answers when you call back two years later about a fault. There is no call centre, no overseas support desk, no scripted reply.

The work we do today

Air conditioning is the bulk of our installation work, both split systems and ducted. Around that, we cover hot water (electric, gas and solar), pool heating (heat pumps and solar), gas fires and wood burners, and electrical work. We also run service and maintenance contracts so the systems we install keep working through the summers they were bought for.

Where a job needs more trades than we can cover in house, our sister company Masterbuild handles plumbing, painting and general building work. The two companies share staff and quality control, so a customer fitting AC and rewiring a villa at the same time gets one project manager, one schedule and one invoice.

Brands we install

For air conditioning we install Toshiba, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi and Panasonic. For hot water we work with Vaillant, Junkers, Ariston and Cointra. For pool and underfloor heating we use Frimec heat pumps among others.

Brand matters because warranty matters. A unit fitted by an unauthorised installer is not covered by the manufacturer, even when the part is genuine. Every brand listed above will register the warranty against our installation. If the unit fails inside warranty, we deal with the manufacturer directly. The customer does not have to chase parts, freight or claim forms.

How we work

Every job starts with a free site survey. We look at the property, the installation route, the electrical capacity and what the customer actually needs (not what is easiest to sell). The quotation is written, itemised and fixed. There are no day-rate surprises and no extras invoiced after the work is done.

Installation is carried out by F-Gas registered engineers . F-Gas is the European refrigerant-handling certification that any legitimate AC installer in Spain must hold. Without it the system cannot be legally commissioned and the manufacturer warranty is void.

Every installation comes with a three-year parts and labour warranty . After year three we offer service contracts to keep the system running. Many of our customers from the 1990s are still on those contracts.

Why EnviroCare

What you actually get when you work with us

Trading since 1996

Helen and Phil started EnviroCare in 1996. Three decades of installations across the Costa del Sol from Nerja to Gibraltar. The team has fitted systems in thousands of properties along this stretch of coast and still services the earliest ones.

F-Gas registered engineers

All installations are carried out by F-Gas certified engineers , the European refrigerant-handling qualification required for legal AC commissioning in Spain. Without it the system cannot pass inspection and the warranty is void.

Multilingual team

We work in English, Spanish and Dutch. Quotations and warranty paperwork are issued in your language. When something needs to be raised with a Spanish supplier or town hall, we handle it in Spanish so you do not have to.

Three-year parts and labour

Every installation includes a three-year parts and labour warranty . After that, an annual service contract keeps the manufacturer warranty intact and the system performing through the summers it was bought for.
