Product advice
Vaillant
Vaillant sits at the premium end of the gas water heater market and earns its position. The atmoMAG and turboMAG units run quieter than Junkers, hold a steadier outlet temperature when two showers are pulling at once, and routinely last fifteen years on the coast with sensible servicing. EnviroCare fits Vaillant where the homeowner is staying in the property long term and running cost over the life of the unit matters more than the cheque on day one. Vaillant has been on our quote list since the company opened in 1996.
About the brand
Vaillant was founded in 1874 in Remscheid, Germany, and remains family-owned through the Vaillant Group. The Spanish subsidiary trades as Vaillant Saunier Duval Iberica from Madrid, with a service centre in Malaga that stocks spares for the calentador and atmoMAG ranges. Vaillant is engineered to a longer service interval than the Spanish-volume brands and the modulating burners hold the outlet temperature within tighter tolerances. The premium is real but so is the engineering behind it.
The range we fit
The atmoMAG range covers naturally-aspirated flue installs, mostly retrofits in older Costa del Sol properties where the existing flue route was specified for a balanced unit. The turboMAG handles fan-assisted forced-flue installs, which is the standard now for new builds and most replacements in apartment blocks. Capacities run from 11 to 18 litres per minute, matching the Junkers range litre-for-litre. The premium is around 25 to 35 per cent over the equivalent Junkers, which buys quieter operation, tighter temperature control and a standard manufacturer warranty of three years against Junkers' two.
Where Vaillant fits and where it does not
Vaillant is the right call for owner-occupied villas where the property will not change hands for ten years or more. The premium pays back across the longer service interval, the lower running cost from tighter modulation and the resale value of a Vaillant on the wall when the property does eventually sell. It is the wrong call for a holiday let where the unit needs to last five years before a refit, or for a budget renovation where the extra spend on the heater eats into other priorities. For a one-bathroom apartment in Fuengirola Centro, Junkers or Cointra is the better economic choice.
What the install includes
A standard Vaillant install covers removal of the old unit, supply and fit of the new heater, gas connection with isolation valve and pressure test, water connections with thermostatic mixing valve where required, flue work to current RITE rules, electrical supply for ignition and modulation, and full combustion testing on commissioning. The work is signed off by a registered gas installer and the boletin lodged. Owners get the gas certificate, the Vaillant three-year manufacturer warranty plus the EnviroCare three-year parts and labour warranty on top, and an annual service reminder for year one.
