Product advice
Ariston
Ariston sits one rung above the budget end of the electric boiler market and is the brand we recommend most often for owner-occupied apartments. The Italian build holds heat better than the Equation entry models, the tanks are enamelled to a higher specification, and the working life on the Costa del Sol comes in at twelve to fifteen years against the eight to ten you can expect from a Leroy Merlin own-label. EnviroCare has been fitting Ariston since the late 1990s and the brand is the default mid-tier pick on the coast.
About the brand
Ariston Group is an Italian water-heating manufacturer founded in 1930 and headquartered in Fabriano, Marche. The group trades globally under several brands, including Ariston, Chaffoteaux and ELCO, and has held a strong position in the Spanish market for decades. The Spanish operation runs from Madrid with a parts and service network covering the whole peninsula. Ariston electric storage boilers carry the Velis, Lydos and Pro1 R lines, with smart-control variants on the Velis range that shift heating to off-peak hours.
The range we fit
The Pro1 R is the volume seller, a vertical wall-mounted enamelled-tank unit available in 50, 80, 100, 150 and 200 litre capacities with a 1500W or 2000W heating element. The Lydos sits a step above with an improved enamel finish and a ten-year tank warranty against five on the Pro1. The Velis range adds smart connectivity, with overnight heating controlled from a phone app to take advantage of a discriminated PVPC tariff. The compact 30 litre Velis EVO is the unit to fit in a single-bathroom flat where space under the boiler cupboard is tight and a Junkers will not physically fit.
Where Ariston fits and where it does not
Ariston is the default fit for owner-occupied apartments and townhouses in the 50 to 150 litre range. It costs around 15 to 25 per cent more than Equation and lasts four to five years longer in hard Costa del Sol water, which makes it the better economic choice when the owner expects to keep the property. The Velis range is the right call for a primary residence where the homeowner is on a discriminated electricity tariff and wants to shift heating overnight. It is the wrong call for a high-turnover holiday let where the next replacement is five to seven years out anyway and the Equation does the same job for less. For a villa with two bathrooms running showers in parallel, the gas Junkers or a Bosch heat-pump tank is a better fit than any electric boiler.
What the install includes
A standard Ariston install covers removal and disposal of the old unit, supply and fit of the new tank, wall bracket sized to the litre rating, isolation valves on cold and hot legs, expansion vessel where mains pressure exceeds 4 bar, condensate drip tray where required by the building, and full commissioning. A registered electrician checks the dedicated circuit and RCD against the new element rating and provides the boletin if anything needs upgrading. Most jobs complete in a single day. Owners get the Ariston three-year manufacturer warranty plus the EnviroCare three-year parts and labour warranty on top.
