Equation
Equation is the Leroy Merlin own-label range and it is the most fitted electric boiler in Costa del Sol apartments and rental flats. EnviroCare has been installing Equation termos electricos since around 2010, when the range first became widely stocked across Andalucia. The reason owners pick it is straightforward. The unit costs roughly 30 to 40 per cent less than the equivalent Vaillant or Bosch, parts come off the shelf at any Leroy Merlin between Estepona and Almeria, and the lifespan in hard local water is around eight to ten years if the anode is checked.
About the brand
Equation is the in-house brand of Leroy Merlin, the French DIY chain that has dominated Spanish home-improvement retail since the early 2000s. The water heaters are not built by Leroy Merlin themselves; they are sourced from established European manufacturers and rebadged with the Equation name. The practical upside for a Costa del Sol owner is that any Leroy Merlin from Marbella to Malaga to Estepona stocks the full range and the spares. A failed thermostat or anode is a same-day part rather than a two-week wait. That counts when the apartment is a rental and the next guests check in on Friday.
The range we fit
Equation cover the full residential spread. The compact 30 and 50 litre units suit a single-bathroom apartment with one shower and a kitchen tap. The 80 and 100 litre sizes are the volume sellers, fitted in two-bed flats and townhouses with one bathroom and a guest cloakroom. The 150 and 200 litre tanks handle three-bedroom homes with two bathrooms running back-to-back. Heating element ratings sit at 1500W on the smaller tanks and 2000W on the 150L plus, with thermostat-controlled cut-off and a magnesium sacrificial anode standard across the range.
Where Equation fits and where it does not
Equation is the right call for rental apartments, holiday lets and primary residences where keeping the upfront cost down matters and a ten-year working life is acceptable. It suits owners who treat the water heater as a serviceable consumable, not a fifteen-year investment. It is the wrong call for owner-occupied villas with two or more bathrooms running showers in parallel. The 200 litre Equation will manage, but a Vaillant or Bosch at the same capacity holds heat better, recovers faster and earns its premium across a longer warranty. For a single-bathroom flat in Fuengirola or Mijas Costa, Equation is the default.
What the install includes
A standard Equation swap covers removal and disposal of the old unit, supply and fit of the new tank, wall bracket sized for the litre rating, isolation valves on the cold and hot legs, expansion vessel where the building supply pressure exceeds 4 bar, and full commissioning. The circuit gets checked against the rating of the new element, with a registered electrician on call if the consumer unit needs a dedicated breaker or RCD. Most jobs run as a same-day swap. Owners get the install paperwork on the day plus the EnviroCare three-year parts and labour warranty on top of the Equation manufacturer cover.
