We are often asked to move external air conditioning units. Usually because of pending renovation works, or the installation of glass curtains on terraces.

Moving an external air conditioning unit involves several important steps, each step must be performed by a qualified air conditioning engineer to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

Here’s an overview:

  1. Preparation

• Power Disconnection: The engineer will first shut off the power supply to the air conditioning unit to ensure safety.

• Refrigerant gas Recovery: Before disconnecting the unit, the refrigerant [gas] inside the air conditioning unit must be safely recovered and stored, as per environmental regulations. This step is essential to avoid releasing harmful refrigerants into the atmosphere

. 2. Disconnecting the Unit

• Disconnect Electrical and Refrigerant gas pipes. The external unit is connected to the indoor unit through refrigerant lines (pipes) and electrical wiring. The engineer will carefully disconnect these, ensuring no damage to the components

. • Unfasten the Unit: The external unit will be detached from its mounting bracket or base.

  1. Relocating the Unit

• Choosing a New Location: The new site should provide good airflow. . It should be stable, free of obstructions, and have adequate clearance for proper operation

. • Reinstalling the Unit: The unit is mounted on a stable base or wall brackets at the new location.

  1. Reconnecting and Recharging

• Reconnecting Electrical and Refrigerant gas pipes: The technician will reattach the refrigerant gas pipes and electrical connections, ensuring that the system is sealed and secure

. • Leak Testing: The system will be tested for any refrigerant gas leaks using special tools

. • Recharging Refrigerant: If necessary, the engineer will recharge the system with the correct amount of refrigerant to ensure efficient operation.

  1. System Testing

• Power On: After everything is connected, the system is powered back on. •

. Operational Check: The engineer will check the cooling and heating functions to ensure everything is working properly after the move.

Moving the external air conditioning unit can be complex due to refrigerant gas handling, electrical wiring, and compliance with Air conditioning regulations, so professional assistance is essential .
